Delta: Police Rescue Centenarian Mother, Pastor, 2 Others From Kidnappers

The Police in Umeh Community, Isoko-South local government area of Delta State have rescued a centenarian mother, a pastor and two girls from suspected kidnappers who stormed the community on Tuesday.

Reports said the heavily armed hoodlums came in a Toyota car with registration number AA196XX and after sporadic gunshots to scare residents of the community and passers-by, they whisked the old woman away to an unknown destination.

While the hoodlums were driving out of the community, they took along a man and two girls seen by the road side but some youths in the community in collaboration with the local vigilante and the police, acting on a tip-off, trailed the suspects. Their efforts paid off when the old woman was rescued unhurt and two of the suspects were arrested after a long gun battle with the police.
State PPRO, DSP Celestina Kalu said the victims have been reunited with family members while efforts were been made to apprehend others linked to the crime.

As it were, elders of the community had last Monday place a curse on the suspects, invoking the spirit of their ancestors to punish whoever plan kidnapping or to adopt any old person in the community. But DSP Celestina Kalu the Police Public Relations Officer in the state who confirmed the arrest of the suspects and the rescued victims, disclosed that based on the reports of the abduction of the old woman, the police detectives in collaboration with local vigilante of the community when after the suspect to their hide out where they have driven to and arrested 3 of them after a long standing gun battle before they rescued the woman and the others.

DSP Kalu said that the victims had since being reunited with members of their families while efforts were been made by the police to step up the arrest of others linked to the crime.

She said that I will no longer be business as usual for all forms of criminal activities, stressing that the police have beefed up their strategies with a view to arresting those perpetrating evils in the state.
