Tuesday: Sweet Time With Jesus

The Power of Prayer and Fasting 2

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Prayer in itself contains much power. It helps you receive your desires from God. It positions you to find what your life needs. It opens closed doors – that is why God said: “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you ….” (Matthew 7:7). There is yet a higher level of power when you add fasting to prayer. That is when your prayer becomes “effectual” and “fervent”, as we see in our text today.

Let us consider 2 more power benefits of prayer and fasting:

- Acceleration in spiritual advancement: Our text today says that this kind of prayer, one with fervency generated by fasting makes power available. And power produces speed. Therefore, to run faster and arrive at your goals, dreams, vision, sooner you must learn to engage prayer and fasting intermittently. After a session of fasting and prayer, the Bible says in 1 Kings 18:46; “the power of the LORD came on Elijah, he …. Run ahead of Ahab(who was on a chariot) all the way to Jezreel” (GND).

- Demonic resistance and opposition: This swallows up and destroys through prayer and fasting. Jesus recommended in Mark 9:29; “…. This kind(of demonic power) can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting”. Beware, Satan’s mission is to “steal, kill and destroy” (John 10:10). If your testimony must not be stolen, engage the key of prayer and fasting to paralyze the activities of the devil.

Prayer: Lord , Enlarge my capacity for fasting and prayer. I must carry power for destiny fulfillment in Jesus name....

Amen!!!
