The Foundation of Marital Happiness

Hebrews 1:10
And, thou, Lord in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands.

God begins everything by laying a foundation. The solidity of the foundation determines the longevity and prosperity of wherever is to built on such foundation. If your marriage must stand the test of time, then the foundation must be well laid. A happy marriage is built on solid foundation, it demands serious work. It requires willingness, and daily effort from the parties concerned to engage the right tools in laying the foundation of their marital happiness. In Psalms 11:3 the bible says “if the foundation be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”. Many marital problems today can be traced to wrong and faulty foundations.

Let’s consider some foundations that sponsor marital happiness:

- Solid spirituality : A strong, working and growing relationship with God. It is only God that can build the future you both need and desire. “Except, the lord build the house, the labour in vain that buildeth it….(Psalm 1127:1). Only God can hold you when all else fails. Only God can change both you and your spouse inside out. “for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). Solid spirituality is the bedrock of a blissful marriage.

- Shared responsibilities : Irresponsibility is a sponsor of heartbreak. Building your home and marriage is a joint responsibility that requires participation. Motivate each other to a life of responsibility. Ecclesiastes 4:9 says “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labour…." Both of you are called to labour.

Beloved, when there is proper understanding of shared responsibilities, there will be harmony and peace that guarantees marital success. I see God helping your marriage in Jesus name.


Prayer: Lord, I receive the wisdom to solidify the foundation of my marital Happiness in Jesus name....
