NNPC Audit Report Exposes Double Subsidy Payments On Kerosene, Petrol-The Cable

PwC stated in the report that in the payment of subsidies for petrol (PMS) and kerosene (DPK) between January 2012 and July 2013, that there were gaps between what was paid and what was supposed to be paid. It put the difference at $980 million (about N195 billion) and alleged "duplicated discharges" in subsidy computation.

The audit was conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) following allegations that the NNPC did not remit $20 billion into the federation account in a letter written to President Goodluck Jonathan in September 2013 by the former governor of central bank, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who is now the emir of Kano.

Sanusi initially put the figure at $49.8 billion, but after a reconciliation committee was set up following a media leak of his letter, he revised the figure to $20 billion.

He was subsequently asked to resign by Jonathan and suspended when he refused to do so, but presidency said his suspension was based on a report by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC) on his misdemeanors at the central bank.

The PwC report, which was ordered released to the public by Jonathan on Monday, did not corroborate Sanusi's figure but the findings were no less damning.

PwC stated in the report that in the payment of subsidies for petrol (PMS) and kerosene (DPK) between January 2012 and July 2013, that there were gaps between what was paid and what was supposed to be paid.

Why Jonathan fired IGP, Suleiman Abba

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, yesterday, became the first major casualty of the just concluded general elections, which President Goodluck Jonathan and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lost to the opposition.

The police officer, who was elevated to the post only last year, incurred the wrath of the Presidency on the eve of the governorship and House of Assembly elections for allegedly arguing with the government officials over the directive to recall the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Zone 6, Tunde Ogunshakin, from Rivers State.

DIG Solomon Arase replaces Suleiman Abba as Inspector General of Police

Abba, it was learnt, had deployed Ogunshakin from his base in Calabar to Port Harcourt to oversee the governorship election in Rivers State following complaints by Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, that the police had collaborated with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the PDP to intimidate APC members and rig the presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

His refusal to pick calls over Ogunshakin’s recall

Another source said the former police boss reportedly ignored presidency official’s objection to the deployment of Ogunshakin to Rivers State on the allegation that the police officer was sympathetic to Amaechi and his party and would, therefore, not allow the PDP win the state.

A Presidency source told Vanguard that on learning that the IG had defied its order by redeploying Ogunshakin to Rivers State to supervise the governorship elections. A presidency official called the former police boss to recall the AIG with immediate effect from Rivers State or face the consequences.

Man Who Trekked To Abuja Over Buhari’s Victory Receives Grand Welcome

It is was like a carnival in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) yesterday when hundreds of youths trooped out to welcome Suleiman Hashimu, now called ‘The Traveller,’ who pledged to walk from Lagos to Abuja if Muhammadu Buhari won the 2015 presidential election.

Hashimu who is a native of Katsina State, arrived in Abuja yesterday evening after trekking for over three weeks. said he was in Lagos when Buhari was announced the president-elect of Nigeria, so he left Lagos at about 5am the next day and arrived in Ibadan around 6pm.

Hashimu told journalists on his arrival in Abuja yesterday that he had gone to get a police report at Ibadan to allow for an unimpeded journey, but that as he could not wait for the processes to be completed, the divisional police officer (DPO) gave him his phone number.

He said that he received both encouragement and discouragement from friends and loved ones, but that he continued from Ibadan to Oyo, then from Ogbomoso to Ilorin with much welcome at every stop.

He explained that at Ilorin, people escorted him for several miles until he stopped at Oloru. He received much hospitality in Jebba, where unlike in other villages he met people who had heard of him.

He further explained that about 20 people set off with him from Jebba and after some miles, 18 turned back, but the other two were more strong-minded and followed him.

The Traveller narrated how they encountered armed robbers close to Mokwa, but that, fortunately, he had already met one of them in Jebba and the would-be robber ended up giving him some amount of money. see more pix

You are a king

1 Samuel 2:8 (NKJV)
‘‘He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the beggar from the dunghill to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory…’’

The bible declares that we have been redeemed to reign, rule and occupy our positions as kings; to subdue and have dominion over all of creation on God’s behalf. However, there are conditions to be fulfilled if we must manifest this royalty.

First, you must become born again. John 3:3 says, ‘‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, I say to you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God…’’ Your spiritually is the root of your royalty. The new birth initiates you into the class of God.

Lord, Change My Position

1 Samuel 9:22
"And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the parlour, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden, which were about thirty persons"

The summary outcome of the story of Saul and Samuel was a divine intervention for a change of position. Saul was born into a family where the enemy had vowed that no one will amount to anything great in life. He lived a life of suffering and aimless wandering. But while he was still wandering his position of honour was there waiting for him.

Saul happened to fine himself in stagnation and frustration despite gifting and potentials; struggling but never rising; and searching but never finding. These conditions kept him in a wrong position in life.

Judge declines to stop impeachment proceedings against Fayose

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday refused to halt the impeachment proceeding being spearheaded by the 19 All Progressives Congress, APC, members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly against Governor Ayodele Fayose, and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola.

The impeachment proceeding notice is said to have been served on the governor and his deputy by the 19 All Progressives Congress, APC, members who have been at loggerheads with the governor since he came on board last October.

Although Fayose has been working with only seven members of the PDP in the House, the APC lawmakers, which the governor does not recognise, returned to the state this week with an impeachment notice, prompting the closure of the House of Assembly by security agents.

But the governor’s bid to stop the impeachment through an interim injunction did not go through as the court rejected their prayers contained in an ex parte application seeking interim injunction to set aside the impeachment notice served on them and halt further moves to remove them from office.

The court, however, granted prayers contained in the ex parte application relating to service of the court processes on the defendants.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed ordered the defendants in the suit, including the APC factional Speaker of the House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to appear in court on April 16.

God Can Change Your Position

1 Samuel 9:21-22
“….Am I not a Benjamite from the smallest of Israel’s tribes, and is not my family clan the smallest….the Samuel brought Saul…into the room and gave them a place at the hed of those who had been invited”

Beloved, God is a God that gives people change of position and one of the ways God blesses people is by a change of position. Until your position in life is changed, your impact in life will be limited. As long as Joseph remained a slave, he could not achieve much. When God changed his position to that of a Prince, he became a lifeline to his family members and community.

The Power of Vows

Genesis 28:20,22
‘‘And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, if God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go….And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house and all of that thou shalt give me, will surely give the tenth unto thee’’

A vow is a sacred promise made to God from a man’s heart. It is binding commitment made to God out of a man’s spirit. When you want to show God how set your heart is, you make Him a vow. A vow is a man coming to God with a solemn words that express the faith in his heart. In Genesis 31:13, God said to Jacob, ‘‘I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou vowest a vow unto me…’’ God repeated Jacob’s here to let Jacob know that He takes note of vows.
