Don’t Pervert Your Character
1 John 4:4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:….
Beloved, you were created to bring glory and honour to God through a good character and righteous living. God wants to use you to influence others unto godliness, “Ye are of God”. Your life must reflect the character of holiness as a child of God. As you give yourself to a life of holiness and godliness, you will encounter persecutions and oppositions that seek to pervert your character.
Do not succumb to the pressure to pay back evil against those who maltreated you. Remember God will bless and reward those who hold on to their righteousness despite persecution. Be like Joseph who was persecuted by his brothers, but did not repay them with bitterness. His brothers sold him into slavery but when God lifted him, he told his brothers, “God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance” (Genesis 45:7). He did not allow what he went through pervert his character.
Child of God, be like David who survived several attempts on his life through the hand of Saul yet he never fell into unforgiveness and vengeance, but continued to respect the anointing upon King Saul. He had an opportunity to kill Saul yet he said; “….The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD’s anointed to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.” (1Samuel 24:6).
Don’t get offended by what you go through at the hands of others. Treat them better than they treat you and you will bring honour and glory to God.
Prayer : Lord I receive grace to maintain good character despite offences in Jesus name....
