IG Advises Churches, Mosques On Security Measures: NEW YEAR

The Police have advised Christians and Muslims to take measures to reduce the number of vehicles at places of worship during the New Year and Juma’at services, respectively.
The Federal Government had declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to celebrate the New Year and Maulud Nabiyyi (birthday of Prophet Muhammad).

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, who gave the advice in a New Year message on Wednesday, said the measure became necessary in view of current security challenges in the country.

He also advised operators of motor parks, recreation centres and owners of shopping Malls to work closely with the police and other security agencies to strengthen security around their facilities.
Meanwhile, the I-G has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Command Commissioners of Police to ensure effective deployment of men and equipment at their disposal to provide security throughout the period.
Abba also directed the AIGs, Border Patrol and Air-Wing to ensure that the nation’s borders were effectively manned to prevent any cross-border crime and provide aerial patrol in all states and FCT.

He commended the personnel for their tireless services in protecting lives and property in 2014 and urged them to continue to be civil in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Abba, however, warned that officers found acting contrary to the force’s “Vision and Mission” would be sanctioned appropriately and wished Nigerians “blissful and peaceful’’ New Year celebrations, assuring them of the readiness and commitment of the police to ensuring a free and fair election in 2015.
