Nearly 1.5 million people lined the famed Sydney Harbour to usher in the new year with spectacular fireworks.

Sydney as always was one of the first major cities in the world to usher in the new year amid frenzied fanfare and spectacular fireworks and New Zealanders welcomed 2015 with a giant clock on Auckland's landmark Sky Tower counting down the minutes until the New Year.

IG Advises Churches, Mosques On Security Measures: NEW YEAR

The Police have advised Christians and Muslims to take measures to reduce the number of vehicles at places of worship during the New Year and Juma’at services, respectively.

The Federal Government had declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to celebrate the New Year and Maulud Nabiyyi (birthday of Prophet Muhammad).

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, who gave the advice in a New Year message on Wednesday, said the measure became necessary in view of current security challenges in the country.

Man Divorces Wife For Being ‘Romantic’

A Saudi husband divorced his wife at the airport after she tried to hold his arm to show him she is a romantic woman.

The man was with his wife at the airport when she grabbed his arm and started to tell him “sweet” words when he went mad and divorced her.

“I know this man,” Saudi Islamic and social researcher Abdul Aziz Al Zeer said during a programme on state Saudi television channel.

“When she did that, he angrily told her to leave his arm but she would not…he then divorced her and later he said he regretted what he did.”

#BringBackOurGirls(BBOG) Group Laments Celebration Of New Year Without Chibok Girls

As the year gradually comes to an end, the #BringBackOurGirls(BBOG) group has lamented over the fact that the Chibok School girls who were abducted by the Boko Haram sect for over eight months will not be around to celebrate the New Year with their families.

The group which had started an advocacy for the safe return of the abducted girls expressed sadness that even after 259 days of the girls being in the hands of their abductors and 244 days of the group’s advocacy, there was nothing tangible from the government to show that there is a rescue mission going on.

In Jeremiah 10:23 the bible says: ''….. the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps’’. that you have the ability to walk does not mean you know the way. To go on without God is to end up in destiny frustration.

WHO: Ebola cases cross 20,000

More than 20,000 people have been infected by the deadly virus in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea alone, WHO says.

The WHO also said in a statement on Monday that there have been more than 7,842 Ebola-related deaths recorded, and 20,081 cumulative cases of infection in the three worst hit countries.
More than a third are laboratory-confirmed cases in Sierra Leone, which has become the worst-hit country in the worst outbreak of the disease on record, the organisation said.

Teenager Electrocuted In Kano

A 13-year-old boy, Bashir Auwalu, was on Sunday electrocuted at Na’ibawa Tsakia quarters in Kano metropolis.

The father of the victim, Auwalu Kwaram, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday that the incident happened at 5.30 a.m.

Kwaram said the victim stepped on a live cord in front of a house while urinating.

He said he found the body of the deceased when returning from a nearby Mosque after the early morning Muslim prayer.

As preparations for the 2015 general elections heat up, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the publication of names of candidates for various positions, declaring that any political party that failed to meet the deadline for submission of names for specific elective positions should forget about fielding a candidate ahead of the 2015 elections.

The publication of the names is done at the constituency level for all candidates.
